How Spain's Wealth Tax works

Spain's Wealth Tax is an annual tax on the net value of certain assets owned on 31 December. Spanish tax residents are generally within scope on worldwide assets, while non-residents are generally taxed only on Spanish-situs assets. Tax residents using the special inbound-worker regime under article 93 of the IRPF Law are treated by real obligation for Wealth Tax and the Solidarity Tax, so this calculator limits that mode to Spanish-situs assets. Autonomous communities can set different allowances, rates, deductions and bonuses.

Key figures used in this calculator

  • General state minimum exemption: €700,000.
  • Qualifying main residence exemption: up to €300,000.
  • Separate filing can still be required when gross assets exceed €2,000,000, even if no Wealth Tax is payable.
  • The state Solidarity Tax applies to large fortunes and uses a separate €700,000 minimum exemption plus a 0% band on the first €3,000,000 of its taxable base.

What this version does not model

  • The statutory income-based 60% quota limits that can reduce Wealth Tax and/or Solidarity Tax. This can materially lower the final amount payable.
  • Foreign tax credits, Ceuta/Melilla proportional relief, protected disability patrimonies or special asset-specific regional deductions. Ceuta/Melilla therefore fails closed instead of showing a potentially misleading tax estimate.
  • Detailed legal valuation rules for every asset type.
  • The Basque and Navarre foral wealth-tax regimes.

Regional differences matter

The calculator applies the published 2025 regional minimum exemptions and regional tax scales where a community has its own scale. It also models the broad effect of general or transitional regional bonuses for Andalusia, Cantabria, Extremadura, Galicia, Madrid, Murcia and La Rioja for planning purposes. For real-obligation taxpayers, regional rules are applied only when the option is selected. Special or asset-specific bonuses are not automatically applied.

Important limitation for 2026 planning

This page is labelled 2026 because it is intended for people using Newcomer.es in 2026. The calculation engine is anchored to the latest complete official Wealth Tax manual currently available: the 2025 tax year, filed in 2026. Rules for the 2026 tax year can be changed before the tax is finally assessed. Always verify the final rules before filing.
