Digital Nomad Visa Income Calculator

Spain Digital Nomad Visa

Income requirement calculator

Check the gross income requirement for the main applicant and accompanying family members using the currently published Newcomer Rules.

€

Use gross income before tax. Enter numbers without thousands separators.

If your income is paid in 14 instalments or varies during the year, choose Per year and enter the full annual gross amount.

Do not count the spouse/partner again here. If there is no partner, the first accompanying family member still receives the first-family-member percentage.

Spain Digital Nomad Visa Income Requirement in 2026

Spain’s Digital Nomad Visa and international teleworker residence route requires the applicant to demonstrate sufficient economic resources.

For 2026, the financial requirement is linked to Spain’s Salario Mínimo Interprofesional (SMI).

    The current calculation is:

    Family memberRequirement
    Main applicant200% of SMI
First accompanying family member75% of SMI
Each additional family member25% of SMI

Spain’s 2026 SMI is €17,094 per year. This produces an annual minimum of €34,188 for the main applicant before adding accompanying family members.

Use the calculator above to compare your gross employment or professional income with the current requirement for your family size.

The calculation is based on the currently published Newcomer Rules rather than financial amounts permanently hard-coded into the calculator.

How Much Income Do You Need for Spain’s Digital Nomad Visa in 2026?

For a main applicant applying alone, the current annual financial requirement is:

    €17,094 × 200% = €34,188 per year

Expressed as an average over 12 calendar months, this is:

    €34,188 ÷ 12 = €2,849 per month

The calculator therefore compares your gross income against an annual requirement of €34,188 and, when useful, displays the equivalent average monthly amount.

    Family applications require additional income.

    ApplicationAnnual requirement12-month equivalent
    Main applicant only€34,188.00€2,849.00/month
    Main applicant + 1 family member€47,008.50€3,917.38/month
    Main applicant + 2 family members€51,282.00€4,273.50/month
    Main applicant + 3 family members€55,555.50€4,629.63/month

Use the calculator for your exact family composition rather than relying only on the examples above.

Why Do Some Sources Show €2,442 per Month Instead of €2,849?

    This distinction is important.

Spain’s 2026 SMI is €1,221 per payment, traditionally expressed using 14 salary payments.

The Digital Nomad requirement for the main applicant is 200% of SMI:

    €1,221 × 200% = €2,442

    When expressed over 14 payments:

    €2,442 × 14 = €34,188 per year

Many international remote workers, however, receive income in 12 monthly payments, not 14 Spanish salary payments.

For someone receiving 12 monthly payments, the equivalent annual requirement is:

    €34,188 ÷ 12 = €2,849 per calendar month

That is why the Newcomer calculator uses the annual requirement as its comparison base and can show its 12-month equivalent. It avoids treating €2,442 × 12 as the full annual requirement when the underlying SMI is based on €17,094 annually.

How Does the Digital Nomad Visa Income Calculator Work?

Enter your gross income and select whether you are entering it per month or per year.

Then indicate whether a spouse or partner is accompanying you and enter any other accompanying family members.

The calculator converts your declared income to a common annual basis, resolves the currently published SMI and Digital Nomad financial rules, calculates the requirement for your family and compares the two figures.

Your result shows whether your declared income currently MEETS REQUIREMENT or is BELOW REQUIREMENT, together with the amount by which you are above or below the calculated threshold.

It also displays the calculation basis and rule information used for that particular result.

How Much Extra Income Is Required for a Spouse or Partner?

For a family unit consisting of the main applicant and one accompanying family member, the additional requirement is currently 75% of SMI.

    Using the 2026 annual SMI:

    €17,094 × 75% = €12,820.50 per year

    That is equivalent to approximately:

€1,068.38 per calendar month over 12 months

The combined requirement for the main applicant and first accompanying family member is therefore:

    €34,188 + €12,820.50 = €47,008.50 per year

    or approximately:

    €3,917.38 per calendar month

How Much Is Required for Each Additional Family Member?

After the first accompanying family member, each additional qualifying family member adds 25% of SMI.

    For 2026:

    €17,094 × 25% = €4,273.50 per year

    This is approximately:

    €356.13 per calendar month

For example, a main applicant, spouse or partner and one additional family member currently require a combined €51,282 per year.

The calculator performs this calculation automatically according to the family information entered.

What If I Am Applying With a Child but No Spouse?

The calculation is based on the structure of the family unit, not simply on whether the first accompanying person is a spouse.

If the application consists of the main applicant and one qualifying accompanying family member, that first accompanying person receives the first-family-member percentage used by the calculator.

Any further qualifying family members are calculated using the additional-family-member percentage.

The calculator determines the financial amount associated with the family size entered. It does not determine whether a particular spouse, partner, child, parent or other relative legally qualifies to accompany the main applicant.

For full eligibility requirements, read the Spain Digital Nomad Visa guide.

Should I Enter Gross or Net Income?

Use gross income before tax, Social Security contributions and other deductions.

The financial-means requirement is assessed using gross amounts.

If you are paid monthly, select Per month and enter your normal gross monthly income.

If you know your total contractual or professional gross income for the year, select Per year and enter the annual figure.

The calculator converts both methods onto the same annual basis before comparing your income with the requirement.

What Income Evidence May Be Needed?

Passing the calculator does not itself prove that the financial requirement has been satisfied.

The immigration authority can examine the actual professional or employment relationship and the evidence supporting the income shown in the application.

Depending on the case, evidence may include employment documentation, professional contracts, payslips or invoices and banking evidence showing receipt of the relevant income.

The documentation should be consistent with the professional relationship on which the Digital Nomad application is based.

Applicants should therefore distinguish between two questions:

Does my income reach the numerical threshold?

    and:

Can I prove that qualifying income properly in my application?

The calculator answers the first question. The wider application must address the second.

Is Meeting the Income Requirement Enough to Qualify for the Digital Nomad Visa?

    No.

Financial means are only one part of Spain’s international teleworker requirements.

The route is intended for qualifying non-EU remote workers and professionals carrying out eligible activity primarily for businesses outside Spain. Requirements can also involve the duration and nature of the professional relationship, company activity, qualifications or professional experience, Social Security arrangements, criminal-record documentation and other immigration conditions.

A result showing MEETS REQUIREMENT therefore means that the income entered meets the financial threshold calculated by the tool. It does not mean that the applicant automatically qualifies for the visa or residence authorization.

See the complete Spain Digital Nomad Visa requirements before preparing an application.

Self-employed applicants should also understand how Spanish Social Security rules may affect them. Read Autónomo for Spain Digital Nomad Visa for more detail.

    Monthly Income Example

Consider a remote worker earning €3,500 gross per month and applying alone.

    Annualized income:

    €3,500 × 12 = €42,000

    Current main-applicant requirement:

    €34,188

    Difference:

    €42,000 − €34,188 = €7,812

On the financial calculation alone, the applicant is €7,812 above the current annual minimum.

The immigration authority still assesses the wider application and supporting evidence.

    Family Income Example

Consider a main applicant applying with a spouse and one child.

    Current annual requirement:

    Main applicant: €34,188

    First accompanying family member: €12,820.50

    Additional family member: €4,273.50

    Total:

    €51,282 per year

    The 12-calendar-month equivalent is:

    €4,273.50 per month

An applicant entering €4,500 gross per month would therefore be above this calculated financial threshold, while an applicant entering €4,000 per month would be below it.

Why Can the Digital Nomad Visa Income Requirement Change?

The financial threshold is linked to Spain’s SMI.

When the Spanish government changes the SMI, the monetary requirement associated with 200%, 75% and 25% can change as well.

Newcomer separates the underlying financial and immigration rules from the calculator interface. The calculator resolves the currently published Newcomer Rules when a calculation is performed.

This architecture means the legal values can be updated through new rule versions rather than being permanently embedded inside the calculator code.

The result also includes calculation-basis information so the rule versions used for the calculation can be identified.

Digital Nomad Visa vs Non-Lucrative Visa Financial Requirements

The Digital Nomad and Non-Lucrative routes should not be confused.

The Digital Nomad route is designed for qualifying remote employment or professional activity and its financial requirement is linked to SMI.

The Non-Lucrative residence route is designed for qualifying applicants who intend to reside in Spain without carrying out work under that residence category, and its financial calculation uses IPREM instead.

If you are comparing the two routes, use the Spain Non-Lucrative Visa Financial Requirements Calculator and read the Digital Nomad eligibility requirements before deciding which route fits your circumstances.

What Happens After Digital Nomad Visa Approval?

Approval is not necessarily the end of the administrative process.

Depending on whether you receive a visa abroad or an in-country residence authorization and on the length and type of authorization, further steps in Spain may include residence documentation, Social Security procedures, tax administration and other registrations.

Our TIE Card Spain guide explains how the physical foreigner identity card works and when it may be relevant.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What is the minimum income for Spain’s Digital Nomad Visa in 2026?

For the main applicant, the 2026 calculation is based on 200% of SMI. With annual SMI of €17,094, that produces a current annual requirement of €34,188.

How much is that per month?

The annual requirement of €34,188 is equivalent to €2,849 per calendar month when divided across 12 months. The underlying Spanish SMI figure is expressed through 14 payments, which is why some official material refers to €2,442 per payment across 14 payments.

How much does a couple need?

A main applicant plus one qualifying accompanying family member currently requires €47,008.50 per year, equivalent to approximately €3,917.38 per calendar month over 12 months.

How much does a couple with one child need?

Using the current 2026 values, the combined requirement is €51,282 per year, equivalent to €4,273.50 per calendar month.

Does the calculator use net income?

No. Enter gross income before tax and other deductions.

Does passing the calculator mean my application will be approved?

No. The result checks the financial calculation only. Digital Nomad eligibility and approval depend on the complete immigration application and supporting evidence.

Can the amount change in the future?

Yes. Because the requirement is linked to SMI, a future change to SMI or to the applicable immigration rules can change the required amount.
